I remember the first time someone told me your story I was just a kid and the first thing I wondered was: why did they treat you like that?

Today I am fifty and while I was preparing my sketch to paint your face my daughter asked me who you were. I shared your story with her and told her about the diary, about the months spent in hiding with your family, about the concentration camps. Do you know what she said? She asked: why did this happen?

Dear Anne,I am not ashamed to admit I did not know what to say, but I told her about partisan women and men who saved other girls like you.
